Postdoc position at Delft University of Technology – Numerical modelling of cyclic soil-monopile interaction

Applications are welcome for a 2.5-years postdoc position on the numerical modelling of cyclic soil-monopile interaction in offshore wind turbines at Delft University of Technology (Netherlands). The research work will include development, set-up and calibration of 3D FE monopile models, in combination with advanced constitutive modelling of cyclic sand behaviour. Design of the numerical simulation programme, and validation of obtained results, will be carried out in close collaboration with experimentalists and industry experts. The new knowledge gained from combined physical and numerical modelling will be oriented towards the formulation and implementation of a new engineering p-y model for the analysis of large-diameter monopiles in sand under cyclic loading.

Full description of the position and instructions for applicants can be found using the following link:
https://www.academictransfer.com/en/290879/post-doctoral-researcher-in-numerical-modelling-of-cyclic-soil-monopile-interaction/

For more information please contact Dr. Federico Pisanò: F.Pisano@tudelft.nl, or Dr. Amin Askarinejad: A.Askarinejad@tudelft.nl .

The closing date for applications is April 30th, 2020. Preferred starting date is November 1st, 2020.

Postdoc position in geomechanics at ENTPE-LTDS (Lyon, France)

Multi-scale behaviour and damage of heterogeneous rocks around underground excavations.

The goal of this project is to investigate the multi-scale behaviour of clay rock, going from microscopic to macroscopic scale. The research will be based on multi-scale approach and numerical method allowing to model microstructure media in a double-scale framework (FEMxFEM). Applications are welcome from PhDs graduated in the areas of civil, mechanical, and materials engineering, or geosciences. PhDs in geomechanics / geotechnics are mostly welcome.

Applications should be submitted before the end of April 2020. Contact: Benoît Pardoen (benoit.pardoen@entpe.fr). —>  Link to description

Post-doc position at the Mechanics and Energy Laboratory of Northwestern University

The Mechanics and Energy Laboratory (MEL) of Northwestern University (Illinois, USA) is welcoming applications for a post-doctoral research position.

The MEL develops research activities addressing fundamental and applied problems centered on the mechanics of geomaterials and structural systems. The ultimate goal of these activities is to develop competence serving the achievement of efficient energy harvesting and storage applications, the development of resilient structures and infrastructures, the prevention or mitigation of natural hazards, and the establishment of built environments that can adapt their features to meet human activity needs.

The selected post-doctoral researcher will push the current knowledge boundaries about the multiphysical properties and behavior of geomaterials subjected to electrical current flows, by means of experimental laboratory investigations and coupled theoretical analyses, from the microscopic to the macroscopic scales.

Please contact Prof. Alessandro F. Rotta Loria (af-rottaloria@northwestern.edu) for more information about this position and the MEL. This call closes on February 25th, 2020.

Further information on this position can be found in the attached document.

Postdoc position at Delft University of Technology-Centrifuge modelling of cyclic soil-monopile interaction

Applications are welcome for a 2-year postdoc position to investigate the cyclic soil-monopile interaction using geotechnical centrifuge. The successful candidate will investigate the cyclic behaviour of small-scale monopile models in sandy soil, both dry and saturated, using two geotechnical centrifuge facilities at TU Delft and Deltares. Candidates should possess a PhD degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related areas, proven experience in geotechnical centrifuge testing, preferably including soil-structure interaction problems and cyclic loading, and excellent knowledge of soil mechanics and foundation engineering.

Full description of the position along with the details on how to apply can be found in the following link:

For more information about this vacancy please contact Dr. Amin Askarinejad: A.Askarinejad@tudelft.nl, or Dr. Federico Pisanò: F.Pisano@tudelft.nl.

The closing date for the applications is February 1st, 2020.
