The session welcomes contributions about shallow geothermal energy applications, including traditional closed- and open-loop borehole heat exchangers as well as so-called energy geostructures (e.g. thermo-active foundations, walls, tunnels).
Different types of analysis and approaches are relevant to this session, spanning from the evaluation of ground thermal properties to the mapping of shallow geothermal potential, from energy storage and district heating to sustainability issues and consequences of the geothermal energy use, from the design of new heat exchangers and installation techniques to the energy and thermo-(hydro-) mechanical performance of energy geostructures. Contributions based on experimental, analytical and numerical modelling are welcome as well as interventions about legislative aspects.

Faculty positions at Northumbria University (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK)
The Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering has particular strengths in Civil Engineering Heritage, Future Construction Technology, and Construction Engineering Management. We are currently seeking to strengthen and consolidate our existing activity in Civil Engineering. In particular, we are looking for candidates with research expertise in fire and explosion resistance of structures, but welcome applications from candidates across all of our areas of research, which include: numerical geotechnics; highway materials; numerical modelling of water and environmental chemistry; railway infrastructure.
Closing Date: 03 November 2019

Researcher position at École des Ponts ParisTech
Researcher position open at École des Ponts ParisTech, Paris, France.
The successful candidate will develop research in numerical modelling of soil-structure interaction under complex loadings including dynamics. Fundamental and numerical studies will be developed in relation with experimental studies performed in Laboratoire Navier and by outside partners. In addition to the development of classical techniques for numerical modelling of materials and structures (FEM, BEM, FFT, …), the valorization of big data gathered from the monitoring of geotechnical structures will be a priority area of research. This includes the development of new tools based on artificial intelligence systems for modelling and design in geotechnics.
Deadline: 18 April 2019
