Post-doc Position at the University of Southampton (UK)

University of Southampton (UK) is hiring a post-doc for a 12months project on shared anchors for floating offshore renewable energy technologies. The project will systematically investigate the cyclic behaviour of those anchors by geotechnical centrifuge modelling in the new National Infrastructure Laboratory. Centrifuge tests will be complemented by X-ray tomography to investigate the anchor failure mechanism. This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with the offshore industry on the future of offshore engineering, as the project has several industrial partners (NGI, EQUINOR, CORPOWER, Lloyds Register and ORE CATAPULT).

More details can be found in this file or on the site of the University of Southampton: https://jobs.soton.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?ref=1416021DA

Postdoctoral Position in geotechnical earthquake engineering at Université Gustave Eiffel (France)

A postdoctoral  position is open at Université Gustave Eiffel, France. The project will focus on Centrifuge Modelling of soft soil reinforced by rigid inclusions subjected to seismic loading. The post-doctoral researcher will carry out experimental studies on the soil-rigid inclusion-superstructure interaction taking into account several highlighted factors. The experimental study will also provide essential data for numerical modeling.

Application deadline: Open until Filled

For more information of the PhD subject, see the attached PDF file.

Two Postdoctoral positions at the Hainan institute of Zhejiang University (China)

The Hainan Institute of Zhejiang University invites applications for two postdoctoral positions in Geotechnical Engineering. The Institute seeks applicants in all areas of Geotechnical Engineering with representative examples including but not limited to: offshore geotechnics, numerical and physically modelling of geo-materials. All candidates with advanced experience in experimental (particularly centrifuge modelling), field, computational, or a combination of these geotechnical capabilities will be considered. There are currently two postdoctoral positions at the Hainan institute of Zhejiang University funded by the institute in the year of 2021.

About the Institute: Zhejiang University, one of the top universities in Asia, is one of the earliest institutions of higher education in China. It ranks 53th according to QS World University Rankings 2020.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Science or other relevant discipline and have the ability to build an independent, externally funded research program at the forefront of their field.

Research topics: The research institute mainly focus on the geotechnical problems in offshore geotechnics, particularly in the areas relating to characterization and modelling of marine sediments (including gas hydrate bearing sediments), offshore foundations, pipeline geotechnics and offshore geo-hazards.

Closing date for applications: 31 Dec 2020

Contacts: Please submit a C.V. including two academic references letters to Dr Yi Hong (yi_hong@zju.edu.cn).

Two Post-doctoral researcher opportunities at the University of Nottingham (UK)

The Nottingham Centre for Geomechanics (NCG) is currently undertaking two large multi-disciplinary projects related to investigating the behaviour of made-ground consisting of coal-mining spoil. NCG brings together expertise from the worlds of civil, geotechnical, and mining engineering as well as mathematics and material sciences to solve all forms of soil and rock-related design and construction problems. The projects are funded by the European Commission Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) and include project partners from across Europe.

The NCG is looking to recruit two post-doctoral researchers who will support the work of these RFCS projects as well as support the wider work of the research group. Although the NCG will consider any candidate with a strong fundamental geotechnical background, they are particularly interested in candidates who have experience with element testing, numerical modelling (FEA/FDM) or centrifuge modelling.

Candidates will have a first degree in Civil Engineering or cognate subject and will have been awarded a PhD (or have submitted their thesis for examination), ideally in an area of Geotechnical Engineering. The successful candidate will have good presentation and report writing skills. A good publication record will be an advantage but its absence should not hinder applications from those who have recently submitted their theses.
