ALERT Geomaterials Workshop 2020, Aussois (France), 28-30 September 2020
The ALERT Workshop 2020 (31st Edition) will be held in Aussois from 28th to 30th September, 2020. Abstracts can be submitted to the three sessions. Please submit your abstracts by email directly to the coordinators using the Workshop abstract form (doc). If you wish to publish your presentation after the Workshop on the ALERT website, do not forget to agree by ticking the corresponding box in the abstract form.
Since time for the presentations is limited, only a part of the submitted abstracts can be chosen for the oral presentations. Therefore, we invite you to submit your abstract as soon as possible. The presentation can also be submitted as a poster. The abstracts of the posters will be published in a separate booklet (ISSN registered).
Deadline: 30th April 2020

XX ICSMGE – Sydney (Australia), 12-17 settembre 2021
La XX International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering si terrà a Sydney (Australia) nel periodo 12-17 settembre 2021 (posticipato a 1-6 maggio 2022).
Scadenza per l’invio dei sommari: 30 aprile 2020.
The theme of ICSMGE 2021 is “A Geotechnical Discovery Downunder – Geotechnical Diversity Awaits You”. Discover Australia and discover the innovation that lies where practical problems meet leading theoretical developments. ICSMGE 2021 will focus on the application of theory and the discovery that comes when world-class minds are focussed on the geotechnical problems facing our world. The conference program and technical sessions reflect this emphasis on applications, and are designed to trigger collaboration, innovation and discovery from a diverse group of participants.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Experimental Soil Mechanics (tenure track) at Delft University of Technology
Applications are invited for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Experimental Soil Mechanics at Delft University of Technology (Holland). The position is proposed to improve their understanding of the fundamental mechanical behaviour of soils undergoing ageing and cyclic environmental loads, and to provide new solutions to the present and future challenges of the built environment. The focus is on developing new experimental techniques and strategies to better understand and tune the response of soils to increasingly high (time-dependent and dynamic) loadings. Emerging sensor and imaging technologies offer the opportunity to develop a new generation of experimental techniques for soil testing in the laboratory and in the field.
The closing date for applications is 15 March 2020.

Postdoc position in geomechanics at ENTPE-LTDS (Lyon, France)
Multi-scale behaviour and damage of heterogeneous rocks around underground excavations.
The goal of this project is to investigate the multi-scale behaviour of clay rock, going from microscopic to macroscopic scale. The research will be based on multi-scale approach and numerical method allowing to model microstructure media in a double-scale framework (FEMxFEM). Applications are welcome from PhDs graduated in the areas of civil, mechanical, and materials engineering, or geosciences. PhDs in geomechanics / geotechnics are mostly welcome.
Applications should be submitted before the end of April 2020. Contact: Benoît Pardoen (benoit.pardoen@entpe.fr). —> Link to description

Post-doc position at the Mechanics and Energy Laboratory of Northwestern University
The Mechanics and Energy Laboratory (MEL) of Northwestern University (Illinois, USA) is welcoming applications for a post-doctoral research position.
The MEL develops research activities addressing fundamental and applied problems centered on the mechanics of geomaterials and structural systems. The ultimate goal of these activities is to develop competence serving the achievement of efficient energy harvesting and storage applications, the development of resilient structures and infrastructures, the prevention or mitigation of natural hazards, and the establishment of built environments that can adapt their features to meet human activity needs.
The selected post-doctoral researcher will push the current knowledge boundaries about the multiphysical properties and behavior of geomaterials subjected to electrical current flows, by means of experimental laboratory investigations and coupled theoretical analyses, from the microscopic to the macroscopic scales.
Please contact Prof. Alessandro F. Rotta Loria (af-rottaloria@northwestern.edu) for more information about this position and the MEL. This call closes on February 25th, 2020.
Further information on this position can be found in the attached document.
