The Italian Group of Geotechnical Engineering (GNIG) aims at promoting the coordination of research and training activities in the field of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (Scientific Sector CEAR-05/A- Geotechnical Engineering), maintaining relationships with other Scientific Disciploinary Groups and Sectors, with the Italian Ministry of University and Research and with other Scientific and Cultural Associations related to Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

The GNIG was founded in July 2012 during the Annual Meeting held in Padua.
The latest version of the GNIG Statute was approved during the General Assembly held in Palermo on 6 July 2023.

Members of GNIG are:

  • Full and Associate professors, Senior Lecturers and Research fellows of Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering and related disciplines (members by right)
  • Individual affiliated members involved in research activities in the field of of Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering and related disciplines
