Mediterranean PhD School – Napoli Federico II – seconda edizione – 11-16 ottobre 2021 – iscrizioni in scadenza
Nella settimana dall’11 al 16 ottobre 2021 si terrà la seconda edizione della Mediterranean PhD School, organizzata dal Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile, Edile e Ambientale dell’Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II. Quest’anno la manifestazione, che verterà sul tema “European Green Deal. Contributions from Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering”, sarà tenuta on-line e sarà completamente gratuita.
Per quanto riguarda l’ingegneria Geotecnica, le lezioni saranno tenute dai proff. Antonio Gens (UPC Barcelona) e Lyesse Laloui (EPFL Lausanne). I lavori si concluderanno con una tavola rotonda coordinata dal prof. Gianpiero Russo (Università di Napoli Federico II).
I dottorandi, oltre che seguire le lezioni, parteciperanno ad attività applicative. Registrandosi entro il 17 settembre, potranno presentare contributi scientifici attinenti al tema della Scuola che è dedicata allo European Green Deal ed alla transizione verso l’ingegneria a zero impatto climatico (ad esempio Geotermia e relative applicazioni) e sviluppare un progetto esercitativo. Sono in palio premi da 600 euro ciascuno per le migliori 8 presentazioni e da 3000 euro per il gruppo che avrà sviluppato il miglior progetto.

On behalf of the organisers, Budi Zhao (University College Dublin) and Zhongxuan Yang (Zhejiang University), we invite you to an Energy Geotechnics Webinar Series (weekly or biweekly from Sep to Dec, 2021).

AGERP’21 Lecture series (update)
The AGERP – Advancements in Geotechnical Engineering: from Research to Practice – Organising Committee invites you to a lecture series which aims to disseminate the coupled learnings from academia and industry on some of the key topics in geotechnical engineering. It is a pro bono initiative, and the lectures are free to attend.

The sixth lecture will be on ‘Design of Foundations‘. Both the talks of this Lecture will be delivered by Emeritus Professor Harry Poulos (University of Sydney, Australia).
Lecture 6 is scheduled to be hosted in two separate sessions on 23rd September 2021 and 24th September 2021 (Australian Eastern Standard Time-AEST) with registration closing at 00:00, 22nd September 2021 (AEST).

The first lecture was on ‘Mechanically Stabilised Earth (MSE) Walls’. This lecture was delivered by Prof. Emeritus Richard J. Bathurst (GeoEngineering Centre at Queen’s-RMC, Canada) and Ms. Chaido (Yuli) Doulala-Rigby (Tensar International Corporation, UK) on 15th April 2021.
2nd lecture: ‘AI and Big Data in Geotechnics‘, jointly delivered by Dr. Robert C. Bachus (Geosyntec Consultants, Georgia, USA), Professor Sarat Kumar Das (Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad, India) and Dr. Nick Machairas (Groundwork A.I. – Next-gen Geotechnics, USA) on 3rd May 2021.
3rd lecture: ‘Geotechnics of Tailings Dams ‘, jointly delivered by Prof. Scott Michael Olson (University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, USA) and Mr. Michael Jefferies (Consulting Engineer, UK) on 28th May 2021
4th lecture: ‘In-situ Testing in Geotechnical Engineering’, jointly delivered by Professor Emeritus Peter K. Robertson (Gregg Drilling LLC, USA) and Eng. Diego Marchetti (Marchetti DMT, Italy) on 11th June 2021

Post-doc position on mechanical and hydrological processes in soil at Westlake University
Introduction of The Lab/ Research Field: Dr. Lei’s research on porous media features temperature, pressure and stress control, pore-scale insights based on micro-CT technique integrated with conventional testing, multi-physics experiments and theoretical analysis. Targeted areas include: (1) particulate material and porous media under abnormal conditions and their interaction with pore constituents; (2) energy, marine, and resource geo-engineering; (3) permafrost and outer space sediments; (4) natural gas hydrates and their hosting sediments; (5) massive energy storage; and (6) multi-phase flow and crystallization in porous media.
Job Description: Position: Postdoctoral fellow; Requirements: 1) To work on mechanical and hydrological properties of soil under various conditions, experimentalist preferred; 2) Have obtained or expect to obtain shortly the PhD degree in water resources, geotechnical engineering, earth science, geophysics, or related disciplines; 3) Age under 35; 4) Geo-mechanical and/or hydrological experiences preferred; 5) Good track academic record.
Compensation and Benefits: The research team offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. Applications for relevant projects and programs will be encouraged and supported.

Weekly webinars on topics related to Geoenvironmental Engineering covering wide range of issues associated with land contamination, waste management, and sustainability and resiliency.
