EURO:TUN 2025 – Computational Methods and Information Models in Tunneling – September 22-24, 2025 Vienna
The ECCOMAS Thematic Conference on Computational Methods and Information Models in Tunneling (EURO:TUN 2025) will take place on September 22-24, 2025 at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) in Austria. The conference is the sixth in a series that started in 2007.
EURO:TUN 2025 will serve as a platform to discuss, evaluate, and review the latest research advances, developments, and applications in the field of numerical modeling and computational technologies in underground engineering. It will provide insights into the current research landscape and future prospects. Updated information as well as the announcement flyer is available on the conference website.
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Please submit a two-page abstract related to the mini-symposium or on the conference topic of your choice via the online submission system by March 21, 2025. Please be aware that each registered participant is limited to one presentation.
We very much hope that you will support the EURO:TUN 2025 conference through your active participation, as the success of the conference depends heavily on the participation of motivated and committed colleagues in order to design a conference program that is both thematically appealing and target group oriented.

The 11th ERTC10-SC7-NEN Webinar on the Second Generation of Eurocode 7 – Dynamic Ground properties and seismic design (Eurocode 8) – 11 December 2024, 15:00-17:00 (CET)
The ISSMGE ERTC10, the CEN/TC 250/SC7 and the Dutch Standardisation Institution (NEN) organize the 11th ERTC10-SC7-NEN Webinar on the Second Generation of Eurocode 7 – Dynamic Ground properties and seismic design (Eurocode 8). The registration is now open at the link https://ec7-dynamic-ground.nen-evenementen.nl/ and participation is free of charge.
Date and time: Wednesday, 11 December 2024, 15:00-17:00 (CET)
The webinar will cover the subject of dynamic ground properties and seismic design, showing the interrelation of Eurocode 7 and Eurocode 8 regarding those aspects. Experts representing CEN TC250 subcommittees SC7 and SC8, who worked on the development of the 2nd generation of those standards, will explain:
- Main changes for seismic design of geotechnical structures in the next generation Eurocodes.
- What we can find on relevant ground properties in the new EN 1997-2.
- Practical implications using design examples for typical geotechnical structures.
The detailed agenda includes:
- Introduction to dynamics in EN 1997-1 – Adriaan van Seters, Fugro, The Netherlands
- Overview of Eurocode 8 part 5 – Main changes and basis of earthquake design for geotechnical structures – Prof. Alain Pecker, École des Ponts ParisTech, France
- Ground properties for dynamic and seismic design – Prof. Sebastiano Foti, Politecnico di Torino, Italy
- Shallow and pile foundations with examples of application – Dr António Araújo Correia, LNEC, Portugal
- Retaining structures with an example application – Prof. Luigi Callisto, Sapienza Università di Roma, Italy
- Q&A session

EGU 2025 – Vienna, Austria – 27 April-2 May 2025
Dear Colleague,
we are proposing a session on nature-based and bio-based or inspired solutions to mitigate the effects of landslides and erosion at EGU25 – European Geosciences Union, which will be held in Vienna from April 27 to May 2, 2025.
The objective of the session is to stimulate the interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge on nature-based (such as use of vegetation, capillary barriers, …), bio-based (such as MICP calcite induced by microbial activities, biopolymers, …) or bio-inspired (root-shaped anchors for soil reinforcement, …) solutions for the mitigation of risks related to hydro-geological disasters, with particular attention to landslides and erosion on slopes and streambanks.
Contributions will range from:
– experimental studies (lab and field testing or monitoring)
– numerical analyses and upscaling of results
– tools, design approaches, best practices, manuals, and guidelines
– National and European policies
– case studies and soil bioengineering applications
The session has been organized by
Vittoria Capobianco, Alessandro Fraccica, Manuela Cecconi, Zhun Mao, Anthony Leung.
(NGI – Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, ISPRA – Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, University of Perugia – Italy, INRAE – French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology)
More information and the session description can be found in the attached flyer and here: Session NH3.13
The deadline for submission of abstracts is January 15, 2025 – 13:00 CET.
Further information on abstract submission is available at: EGU25 – How to submit an abstract
Looking forward to seeing you in Vienna.
Best Regards,
Manuela Cecconi
