Winter School on Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment – 3rd Edition, 21-23 January 2020, Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland
The 3rd edition of the Winter School on Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment will be held on January 21st -23rd 2020, in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland.
Geomechanics, Environment and Energy are increasingly related and contemporary themes. The goal of the school is to provide participants with a deep understanding on selected topics in Geomechanics which are fundamental for applications related to Energy and the Environment. This Winter School is organized in the framework of the international journal Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment.

Research positions at Imperial College (UK), EPFL (Zwitzerland), Newcastle University (UK)
Applications are invited for a one year full-time researcher based in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London in the area of discrete element modelling and computational fluid dynamics. The successful applicant will join the Geotechnics research group as a member of research staff and will conduct research on an EPSRC funded project entitled “Particle-scale investigation of seepage induced geotechnical instability”. The work will be conducted under the supervision of Professor Catherine O’Sullivan.

Postdoctoral position in Energy Geostructures field, Laboratory of Soil Mechanics (LMS), EPF Lausanne.
The position, funded by Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), aims at providing fundamental information on the mechanisms governing the cyclic thermo-mechanical behaviour of energy geostructures by analyzing multiphysical processes occurring within the soil, soil-structure interface and along energy geostructures through an experimental, theoretical, and numerical approach.
The position is now open and will start on August 1st 2019 or upon agreement.

Post of Research Assistant/Research Associate in the School of Engineering at Newcastle University in the area of computational geotechnics. The successful applicant will carry out high-quality research on infrastructure embankments and the impacts of climate change. This project is part ACHILLES consortium which comprises the Universities of Newcastle, Durham, Loughborough, Southampton, Bath and Leeds and the British Geological Survey.

International Conference on Geotechnical Engineering Education (GEE2020), 24-25 Giugno 2020, Atene – Call for Abstracts
La conferenza internazionale Geotechnical Engineering Education 2020 (GEE2020), che si terrà dal 24 al 25 Giugno 2020 ad Atene, è organizzata dal Comitato Tecnico TC306 for Geo-Engineering Education della International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). La conferenza è alla sua quinta edizione, dopo quelle di Sinaia, Romania (2000), Constantza, Romania (2008), Galway, Irlanda (2012) e Belo Horizonte, Brasile (2016).

The aim of the conference is to give an up-to-date picture of the broad research field of computational geomechanics. Contributions from experts around the world will cover a wide range of research topics in geomechanics. The conference program will include plenary lectures, mini-symposia, selected oral and poster presentations. Pre-conference courses on June 29 and 30 will also be held in Milan and Grenoble.
